About This Site

This site brings together information about Brookline buildings from a variety of sources. Most of the information comes from reports about the buildings filed with the Massachusetts Cultural Information Resources System, or MACRIS. Link to those reports are supplemented with other sources, including articles from late 19th and early 20th century Brookline newspapers digitized for the Pubilc Library of Brookline as well as more recent sources.

The Massachusetts Cultural Resources Information System, or MACRIS, provides information on historic properties and areas in the Commonwealth. It provides PDF reports prepared primarily by local cities and towns for many building and areas, as well as more limited information on many other properties within those communities.

This website provides links to those properties in Brookline that have PDF reports available. (It makes it much easier to access those reports than through the standard convoluted MACRIS search interface.)

It also includes links to other reports, including newspaper articles form 1874-1918 digitized by the Public Library of Brookline.

To access individual reports, use the lengthy alphabetical street list at the right or use the alphabet bar to jump to the list of streets starting with any letter of the alphabet.

The screenshot of a sample page below shows how to access the PDF reports from the MACRIS page on a particular property.
