This house was one of four built in 1940 on the south side of Blake Road, on land that had remained part of the Blake Estate after the rest of the estate was sold for the earlier stage of development. All were built by the builder/architect team of Simon Black and Ralph I. Williams. (The two were also responsible for four houses on Welland Road built after the death of Frances Blake and the sale of the remaining property.)
The first owners were Harry and Frances Baker. Both were born in England. Harry, an insurance broker, came to the U.S. in 1914, and Frances, or Fannie, in 1920. They had two sons. The Bakers lived in this house for four or five years.
The next residents were Aline and Ernest Donath and Aline's parents Mark and Selma Romanow. The Donaths had previously lived on Marion Street. Ernest was a manufacturer. Mark Romanow was a retired dentist. They were listed here in the Street List until 1948. Ernest Donath died in 1967. Aline (or Arlene) Donath died in Florida in 2004.
