The builder and architect of this house, Harry Sklaver and William J. Freethy, were also responsible for four houses on Somerset Road and one on Blake Road. Freethy, working with another builder, also designed 14 Welland Road in the earlier stage of the development of Blake Park.
49 Welland Road was the home of Frank and Ruth Kopelman, previously at 14 Parkman Street. Frank Kopleman (1908-1995) was born in Lithuania and came to the U.S. with his mother and siblings in 1922. (His father, who owned a jewelry shop, had come three years earlier.) He graduated from Boston University and Harvard Law School and served in the late 1930s and early 1940s as chief legal counsel to the state Securities and Exchange Commission. He later worked at the law firm of Hale, Sanderson, Byrnes and Morton in Boston until his retirement. Kopelman also served as a special justice of the First District Court of Barnstable and taught at the Boston University and Boston College Law Schools.
The Kopelmans were listed at this address in the Street List until the late 1940s.
